Lampshade skills tuition tailored just for you

We are very happy to arrange a day of lampshade making tuition to fit around you. If you are a beginner to lampshade making, we recommend that one day with us will be ideal for learning any one of the three core skills: pleats, gathers or tailored shades. You will be able to use your own fabric if you wish, and we will provide you with shade frame and all the specialist sundries that are ideal for learning the technique. A day like this is suitable for one to three people. The day would take place in our dedicated sewing studio.

Advanced skills tuition

Joanna also offers one-to-one training for intermediate and advanced makers. This could be a day of learning how to create more complex pleated effects – fans and sunbursts for example – using silk chiffon or georgette. Depending on the skills you wish to master you would book one or two days. For advanced skills we would start by working on sample shades to master the technique before moving on to a finished silk lampshade.

We will provide all the specialist sundries and equipment you will need for the day. Shade frames and specialist fringing are charged in addition. Usually all you'll need to bring is your choice of fabric and a packed lunch. We have a small kitchen and there'll be tea and coffee and flowing all day.
