Introduction to upholstery - a three day course

An introduction to traditional and modern upholstery skills for beginners

This skills-packed upholstery course is designed to introduce the tools, materials and core techniques to budding upholsterers. Working on two projects over three days, students will reupholster an Edwardian drop-in dining chair, or similar, using traditional horse hair and hessian, discovering the joy of working with a magnetic hammer and tacks to create something beautiful and useful. We'll then move on to reupholster a more modern piece such as a footstool using foam and staples... quick, effective and very satisfying.

These skills will enable students to confidently carry on upholstering a wide range of furniture at home, from chairs to headboards and ottomans (ottomen?). This Introduction to Upholstery course also serves as an important first-step for students considering taking up upholstery either as a hobby or to train professionally with our AMUSF upholstery diploma.
