Swathed pleated lampshades - an advanced class

This busy and skill-packed class is designed to teach the precise and pleasing skills of making classic swathed pleated lampshades using silk chiffon. Popular back in the fifties, chiffon lampshades are enjoying a revival, with a gloriously fresh twist of colour. Students will be taught how to: restore and bind their frame; to measure and mark up for their chosen arrangement of pleats; to handle chiffon, fold and stitch; fit a tailored lining; and to make bias binding using their chiffon.
As this class is designed for students who have some lampshade making and sewing experience. We will be working on drum empire lampshade frames, which will be supplied. If you have one, bring it along, otherwise we can pre-order one for you for the course.

What to bring? One metre of silk chiffon fabric in your chosen colour. One metre of lining fabric, such as a cotton lawn or silk dupion. We have sewing machines and plenty of pins but do bring your own matching thread, sharp fabric scissors and a general sewing kit. Plain antique white lining fabric and cotton tape are provided for use on the course.
We will keep your creativity fuelled plenty of tea, coffee and home made cake. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or may prefer to make the most of the Field Kitchen, which is just next door.
