Piped scatter cushions - a one day workshopOur very first soft furnishings workshop simply had to be piped scatter cushions. This little beauties are the first step into the joys of making your own soft furnishings. They are an excellent way to add personality to a room... and they make fabulous handmade presents too.
In one busy day you will learn all the skills involved in making zipped, piped cushions to a professional standard, including: correct measuring of the cushion pad; marking and cutting out fabric; cutting and joining fabric to make piping; inserting and joining piping for a professional finish; inserting a zip; and achieving perfect corners. There will be plenty of inspiring discussion on choice of fabrics and trimmings to enable you to create beautiful bespoke cushions at home. You will have a beautiful zipped piped scatter cushion in your own choice of fabric to take home. What to bring? We will provide you with a quality feather-filled 20in (50cm) square cushion pad, piping cord and zip. We have a few sewing machines, scissors and threads, but we believe you'll enjoy the day much more if you bring along your sewing kit (sharp fabric scissors, matching thread and a few pins) plus your own sewing machine if you have one. You will need half a metre of soft furnishings fabric for making your cushion cover plus a further quarter of a metre for the piping. Your finished cushion will be 18 inches (46cm) square. We will keep your creativity fuelled plenty of tea, coffee and home made cake. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or may prefer to make the most of the Field Kitchen, which is just next door.
