The Lampshade School |
The Traditional Upholstery School offers professional training in lampshade making. These classes usually run as two-day workshops which focus on a specific technique or aesthetic, such as perfecting pleated lampshade techniques, or pushing creative boundaries with with dip-dyed tassels and trimmings. Sessions are intensive, creative, fun and busy, and are designed to teach fully transferable skills, enabling students to go on to make many beautiful and bespoke shades to a professional standard.
In addition to the two-day workshops, an four-day Lampshade Summer School runs annually in late July. The idea behind this class is that students coming from long distances can benefit from one dedicated trip (although we don't mind if you live nearby ;-)). During this wonderful masterclass all of the key techniques will be covered, including tailored, pleated and gathered shade-making skills. Classes are taught by expert lampshade maker, author and school founder Joanna Heptinstall. Dates run throughout the year and new classes are scheduled in regularly. A very important note to students about copyright. All classes at the Traditional Upholstery School are designed to teach students fully transferrable techniques so that they may pursue their own creative journeys into the creative craft of lampshade making. The examples used, and creative work shown, exist to inspire its students. They remain the property of the school and its tutors. Permission is not given for these designs to be copied for future sale.
