AMUSF at the Traditional Upholstery School

Why choose to study for the AMUSF Diploma at the Traditional Upholstery School in Wiltshire?
Other than the fact that we’re friendly, cheery, well-equipped, with plenty of free parking and with a lovely countryside location, our class sizes are small and our tutors are excellent: they are highly experienced, professional, friendly and supportive.
A class has a maximum of eight students - an excellent tutor-student ratio - ensuring that no-one should have to wait for attention. As a team, we aim to give every student the perfect level of individual attention, allowing each to thrive and get the best of the training. As well as covering the core skills of upholstery thoroughly, we actively encourage individual creativity, helping students develop their own style and strengths.
In addition to the formal training, Traditional Upholstery School students can join our upholstery-related tours and visits. These include memorable class outings to trade shows, exhibitions and professional workroom tours. Our students are also encouraged to take on work for friends and family at early stages in the courses to build their confidence.
If you are interested in any sort of upholstery training, do get in touch. We will be starting our enrolments for the September 2022 courses in March 2022. This is likely to take the form of one-to-one meetings, where we can answer all your questions and give you a good idea of what the course is all about.

What is the AMUSF?
The Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers was founded in 1947 (known then as the AMU) to protect the interests of upholsterers, small furniture makers, and later, soft furnishers. In those early days of post-war austerity, this group of master craftsmen (and craftswomen) were starved of many of the materials needed for their trades.
Today, the Association offers an extensive range of support and services to members, ranging from advice on sourcing materials, to keeping abreast of complex fire safety regulations. The AMUSF is highly active in training, administering the most comprehensive qualifications in Traditional Upholstery in the UK. The content of this training is constantly monitored to ensure its relevance in what is today a thriving professional creative industry. The AMUSF sees this as a vital contribution to the long-term well-being and continuing strength of the upholstery and soft furnishing trades.
