Tailored lampshades for beginners - a two day course
This creative and skill-packed class is designed to teach makers, upholsterers and soft furnishers the core skills and techniques of tailored lampshade making. Bespoke lampshades are an absolute joy for the creative maker and lover of interiors. Indeed, whatever your experience - creativity and experimentation will be actively encouraged.
Students will be taught to a professional standard how to: restore and bind their frame; make a template; cutting out, working with pattern and grain; sew, pin and fit their cover; hand sew their cover to the frame; and finish off using braids and trims with finesse and aplomb!
Students will be taught on their own choice of shade frame, and so will be working independently, learning core skills which will allow them to go forth and re-shade the world of interiors.
Who's it for? This class will be suitable for beginners and novice sewers, as well as those who wish to add lampshade making to their list of skills.
What do we provide? We will have binding tapes, lining materials in shades of white and cream, spare frames, threads, pins, scissors and sewing machines. We usually have plenty of spare shade frames available too.
What to bring? Students should bring their own lampshade frame and fabric, plus decorative trims to finish. Suitable frames include drum empire and scallop empires, but please do send us a photo if you already have something in mind. Most students like to work with heir own scissors and sewing machines, so do bring them if you can. Most students prefer to bring a packed lunch, or you can buy something from the lovely cafe next door. We will keep your creativity fuelled all day long with plenty of tea and cake.
