Back to school... a three day introductory course
The Traditional Upholstery School's three day upholstery course is designed to introduce tools and techniques to budding upholsterers and teach transferable core skills which will allow the to re-upholster a range of simple pieces. Training for three full working days, students build up their techniques working on a traditional hair-filled dining chair, and a modern foam-filled footstool with shallow buttoning.
These projects cover two important modules in an upholsterer's repertiore: traditional upholstery with hair and hessian; modern upholstery built with foam and equivalent materials. These transferable skills enable students to confidently carry on upholstering a wide range of furniture at home, from a range of chairs to headboards and ottomans (ottomen?). The course also serves as an important first-step for students considering the professional upholstery diploma.
With a maximum of eight students per course, and two tutors if student numbers exceed five, the amount and quality of the tuition received is exceptional, and is geared to individual needs. You do not need any skills to begin this course, although a love of fabric and passion for working with your hands is a very good start.
"I really enjoyed this course. I have learned so much
and already have lots of upholstery jobs lined up. Brilliant!"
