Pleated Lampshade Making - a Two Day Course
In this busy and skill-packed class you will learn all the skills involved in making pleated lampshades. Popular back in the fifties when our parents and grandparents were young, pleated shades are enjoying a revival, with a new twist of course. As well as learning the satisfyingly precise craft of folding, pinning and stitching your cover into place, you will learn how to restore and bind a shade frame; create a template, sew and fit a lining; and how to make bias binding (the most useful and versatile lampshade trim of all).
What to bring? We will be working on straight sided and empire shaped shades. If you have one, bring it along, otherwise we can pre-order one for you for the course. You will need to bring your own top fabric. A lightweight cotton lawn or silk doupion would be ideal. We have sewing machines and plenty of pins but do bring your own matching thread, sharp fabric scissors, small snipping scissors and a general sewing kit. Plain antique white lining fabric and cotton tape are provided for use on the course.
We will keep your creativity fuelled plenty of tea, coffee and home made cake. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or may prefer to make the most of the Field Kitchen, which is just next door.
