Gathered Lampshade Making - a Two Day Course
In this busy and skill-packed class you will learn all the skills involved in making gathered lampshades. Gathered shades are enjoying being very trendy in the world of lampshades. As well as learning the satisfyingly precise craft of planning, gathering, pinning and stitching your cover into place, you will learn how to restore and bind a shade frame; create a template, sew and fit a lining; and how to make bias binding (the most useful and versatile lampshade trim of all).
What to bring? We will be working on cone, drum and empire shaped shades. If you have one you'd especially like to work on, bring it along, otherwise we can pre-order one for you for the course (or choose something from the big pile in the workroom). You will need to bring your own top fabric. A soft lightweight cotton lawn or muslin would be ideal. Nothing too thick, stiff or textured - think thin! We have sewing machines, but most people prefer to bring your own. Let us know if you need to use one of ours. We'll supply plenty of pins but do bring your own matching thread, sharp fabric scissors, small snipping scissors and a general sewing kit. Plain antique white lining fabric and cotton tape are provided for use on the course.
We will keep your creativity fuelled plenty of tea, coffee and home made cake. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or may prefer to make the most of the Field Kitchen, which is just next door.
