Gathered Lampshade Making - a One Day Course
Gathered shades are enjoying being very trendy in the world of lampshades. In this busy and skill-packed one-day class you will learn all the skills involved in order to make your own. As well as learning the satisfyingly precise craft of planning, gathering, pinning and stitching your cover into place, you will learn how to restore and bind a shade frame; create a template, sew and fit a lining; and how to make bias binding (the most useful and versatile lampshade trim of all).
Note There is a lot to learn so students will all be working on a straight cone shade with a 6in or 8in base. Suitable fabrics in very lightweight cotton muslin will be provided. Students are welcome to bring own fabric, but it should be of very fine weight cotton or linen.
What to bring? We'll supply plenty of pins but do bring your own sharp fabric scissors, small snipping scissors and a general sewing kit, including a thimble. Plain antique white lining fabric and cotton tape are provided for use on the course.
We will keep your creativity fuelled plenty of tea, coffee and home made cake. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or may prefer to make the most of the Field Kitchen, which is just next door.
