Gathered Lampshade Making - a Two Day Course
Gathered shades are enjoying being very trendy in the world of lampshades. In this busy and skill-packed two-day class you will learn all the skills involved in order to make your own. As well as learning the satisfyingly precise craft of planning, gathering, pinning and stitching your cover into place, you will learn how to restore and bind a shade frame; create a template, sew and fit a lining; and how to make bias binding (the most useful and versatile lampshade trim of all).
What to bring? We will supply students with a 10 or 12in French drum-shaped shade. You will need to bring 1m top fabric. Plain antique white lining fabric and cotton tape are provided for use on the course. We'll supply plenty of pins but do bring your own sharp fabric scissors, small snipping scissors and a general sewing kit, including a thimble.
We will keep your creativity fuelled plenty of tea, coffee and home made cake. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or may prefer to make the most of the Field Kitchen, which is just next door.
