Upholstery Foundation Course... the first steps
The Traditional Upholstery School's 12 week Upholstery Foundation Course is designed to teach budding upholsterers the core skills central to all traditional and modern upholstery. Training one evening a week for 12 weeks, students build up their techniques working on three specific projects. These projects are: a traditional hair-filled dining chair; a modern foam-filled footstool with shallow buttoning; and a piped scatter cushion with zip.
These projects cover the three key modules in an upholsterer's repertiore: traditional upholstery with hair and hessian; modern upholstery built with foam and equivalent materials; and machine sewing skills. These transferrable skills enable students to confidently carry on upholstering a wide range of furniture at home. The course also serves as an important first-step for students considering the professional upholstery diploma.
With a maximum of ten students per course, and two tutors if student numbers exceed eight, the amount and quality of the tuition received is exceptional, and is geared to individual needs. You do not need any skills to begin this course, although a love of fabric and passion for working with your hands is a very good start.
