Drums, Cones and Coolies - a One Day Course
Hard-sided lampshades are hugely popular in classic and contemporary interiors… and once you have the know-how, they are quick and simple to make. Indeed, many crafty people have gone on to set up successful creative businesses making and selling hard-sided shades. This course starts by teaching you how to create a simple 25cm diameter drum table lampshade using a pair of rings and laminated card. Once you have the hang of it you will go on to work with curves and make a cone, or coolie, shade. We will also have a fun maths session (really!) where you'll find out how to create a template so that you can create any proportion of lampshade you wish (even that 70s chimney shade down there...).
What to bring? Students should bring fabric with which to cover their two shades. Patchworking cottons and lightweight linens are the perfect weight. As guide, you should bring half a metre for each shade (but let us know if you are bringing a large shade as you may need more).
We will keep your creativity fuelled plenty of tea, coffee and home made cake. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or may prefer to make the most of the Field Kitchen, which is just next door.
